- PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
- Fast Knockdown of Sucking Pests — Naturally Derived from Pyrethrum
- PYRETONE 40EC is a natural, botanical contact insecticide for the control of thrips, aphids and whiteflies on roses, French beans and herbs, whiteflies on broccoli, and Fall Armyworm on maize.
- PYRETONE 40EC acts rapidly on contact, providing quick knockdown of soft-bodied pests. As a naturally derived product it breaks down rapidly in the environment and leaves minimal residue, making it well suited to food and continuously harvested crops and to IPM programmes.
- ACTIVE INGREDIENT
- Pyrethrins – 40 g/L
- MODE OF ACTION
- Pyrethrins are natural insecticidal esters extracted from pyrethrum flowers, classified under IRAC Group 3A (sodium channel modulators). On contact they rapidly disrupt sodium channel function in the insect nervous system, causing hyperexcitation, paralysis (knockdown) and death. PYRETONE 40EC is non-systemic, acts mainly by contact, and degrades quickly under sunlight (UV).
- Key Properties:
- Contact action with rapid knockdown
- Naturally derived, with short environmental persistence and minimal residue
- Broad-spectrum activity against soft-bodied (sucking) pests
- Non-systemic — requires thorough spray coverage to be effective
- TARGET CROPS, PESTS & APPLICATION RATES
| CROP | TARGET PESTS | Rate of application |
| Roses, French beans, Herbs | Thrips, aphids & whiteflies | 1L/Ha/1000 L of water
20mL/20L of water |
| Broccoli | Whiteflies | |
| Maize | Fall armyworm |
- PHI & RE-ENTRY INTERVAL
- Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): 6 hours (as stated on the label — see note)
- Re-Entry Interval (REI): Safe to re-enter once spray deposits have dried; the label states after 4 hours
- Equivalent Field Rate: 1 litre per hectare in 1000 litres of water
- METHOD OF APPLICATION
- Maintain continuous agitation throughout. Fill the spray tank halfway with clean water, add the recommended quantity of PYRETONE 40EC (1 litre per 1000 litres of water, or 20 ml per 20-litre knapsack) and mix thoroughly, then top up with the remaining water while agitating. Apply as a full-cover foliar spray, ensuring even and thorough coverage of all plant parts, including the undersides of the leaves. Direct the spray at the target and away from people and food.
- APPLICATION GUIDE
- Apply at the first sign of thrips, aphid or whitefly infestation
- Spray late in the evening or early in the morning — pyrethrum breaks down rapidly in direct sunlight (UV)
- Ensure complete wetting of foliage, including leaf undersides
- A programme of 4 applications at 3–4 day intervals is recommended
- Maintain continuous agitation of the spray mixture
- Do not spray when bees are actively foraging — pyrethrins are harmful to bees
- KEY FEATURES
- Fast Knockdown — Rapid contact action quickly reduces pest populations.
- Naturally Derived — Extracted from pyrethrum flowers; short residual and rapid environmental breakdown.
- Short Pre-Harvest Interval — Minimal residue, suitable for food and continuously harvested crops.
- Broad-Spectrum on Soft-Bodied Pests — Controls thrips, aphids and whiteflies across several crops.
